Work begins on the new North Sea Sailing Centre

Work has begun yesterday on the new North Sea Sailing Centre. After some consultation with interested people and local enterprises, we decided to put down a 3D rendition, with some ideas of the project. Working closely with Elbag and some previous Eden architects, we have now a good idea as to the feeling of the structure.

What we will not have here is another marina. What we will have is a sailing and boating centre where people can come and hang out, learn to sail; try out and buy boats and find many resources for the beginner and expert alike; meet sailors and like-minded people.

The Pier will be the perfect place to watch boat races at Breadnut, with good view of the start/finish line and a couple of the North Eastern buoys of the North Sea. Anyone for a pier party?

This is work in progress and we expect the build to be complete in the next two weeks.

LCC Christmas Cruise

Partied at Holly Kai Park with good friends at the Christmas-themed party. Charlz on the couch holding Bliss and Alex below. Gabi was there as well as many friends. Great music and good times. Btw, today was my 400 days in SL, yay 🙂

Blue Lagoon Marina Open Regatta – 24th September 2014

A great regatta again with 15 boats taking part.

Wind was 18 Kts SW

We sailed the North Sea Olympic (long)

Well done to Armano, Anu and Viv as well as the rest of the sailors. Great race. We saw Gwen sail the RiX sailboard for the first time too.

Then we sailed 3 laps of the North Sea Short Loop course

Well done to Anu, Beane and Lucy.

A few notes: Rain didn’t have an ID, but we followed her and placed her accordingly. Her lap times may not have been exactly as shown, but the placing is correct. Qyv sailed the Q-44 which didn’t have a handicap so a final placing an not be calculated. We’ll add the handicap soon.

Thank you to Arya for helping me, to Gwen for the party management and to Robyn for spinning the disks.

The party was so cool we had to kick them out when it got so late!

Blue Lagoon Marina Open Regatta – 3rd September 2014

Wonderful boats out on display before the race. Designs from Rain Inoue (Therrainia Resident) and Rei (Reigen Zeplin).

What a fantastic Regatta !

Slick sailing, fantastic people and great ambiance.

This Open Regatta was perhaps our biggest to date with 20 boats taking part, but at least three of them crewed, perhaps more and a whole lot of speculators coming to watch some of the best sailing in SL.

An excellent race with no crashes. 20 boats of all shapes and size on a course that crosses itself and no crashes, how cool is that!

Race 1 was the North Sea Olympic Course

Race 2 was the 3 laps of the North Sea Short Loop Course

Yours truly messed up in the first running of the second race. I didn’t turn on the multiple laps on the line, so we all set off for 3 laps and after a little while, we realised that race was over when it was obviously not… silly me. So we restarted and did it again. Stopping the 1st race using an unconventional method 🙂

The second time was much better and 3 or 4 sailors who crashed or messed up their camera in the first effort, were happy to try again. We did have 2 DNF unfortunately. It is a really tricky course as the boats are on top of each other around the tight corners.

Well done to all !! Thanks for participating 🙂

Thanks to Gwen for her great party installation. Thanks to Robyn for playing the music for the party. Thanks to Fabber for filming the event. Thanks to Elbag for giving me support during the event.

Blue Lagoon Marina Open Regatta – 27th August 2014

Yesterday we had another fantastic Blue Lagoon Marina Open Regatta where we raced the North Sea Olympic and the fun North Sea Short Loop course.

We had 20 boats in the first race, 17 in the second. An Excellent turnout and quite a few of the usual suspects weren’t even here (Orca, Roy, Destiny, Kurt, Deni, Laycee, Corsakov, Leon etc.).

Results of Race 2 North Sea Short Loop

Well this was interesting. The Takos are certainly flying. Perhaps I’ll add a table for them to just check the handicap 🙂 Well done to Anu and Armano for the great times and for coming first and second respectively in the first race.

Maiti upset the Takos in the second race with her excellent times.  Well done to her. This is handicap racing at its best.

Well done to Saphy and ZZ for racing their very first race in their new yacht!! Saphy did really well as she had been practising a lot recently. ZZ would have done better if she had concentrated more on the race and less on taking the photos 😉 ZZ, we are very grateful for you photos though. See the link to them below.

We had a few other newcomers. Welcome to TigerLilly, Colette, Philip and Wolfie.

I just wish these times and scores could be shown immediately after the race. We have a plan to do this. I’m just looking for a kick-ass web database programmer to implement the plan. I will have a live handicap racing scoreboard up and running sometime folks. Any interested parties, please contact me.

Some interesting info comes out of the scores. We had increased the SC Marlin handicap earlier in the day from 0.74 to 0.90. Thanks to Rosie and Anu for helping with that. Still Saphy did really well for a new racer. I think 0.90 is a good handicap for now. We will monitor it overt the next few months.

We will do the same for the Loonetta handicap. I need some experienced sailors with the Loonetta 31 to race the NS Olympic course and send me their times please.

Thanks to Mariane for helping me manage the boats. Thanks to Gwen for laying out the party gear. Thanks to ZZ for the photos.

Some photos from ZZ, here:

A photo of the boats before the racing. We were discussing textures and of course Rei and Rain had to pull out all their boats. What a wonderful sight in the North Sea sunset. See you next week folks!

Topless Tuesday – TrYC – 26th August 2014

Well done to Justin, Beane and James, our winners. Well done to all for some wonderful sailing.

Well done to TigerLilly for buying the M-24 half an hour before the race, unpacking at Breanut, rezzing and setting it up and then racing for the first time. We hope that you come back and race more.
